Memorial Day Ride May 26, 2008

Well the weekend weather really put a damper on the kayaking and riding. Between the wind, rain and cold temps it just was not very good. We did manage a nice ride this morning though and it was in just the nick of time. I was about to go crazy if I did not get to turn some peddles or paddle some paddles. Five of us got together at the south end of the Sioux Falls bike trial and head out at 8AM. We opted to go the the east due to the wind and the fact it is a bit more protected. Kay and I were joined by Bruce and Nancy DeNeui and Daryl Elcock. Daryl had ridden once before with us, but this was Bruce and Nancy's first time . It was a nice morning, brisk temps, bright sunshine and not much other traffic. There were a few other bikes and a jogger or two, but nothing that really slowed us down. We rode the top of the Penitentiary hill and the head back the way we came. We decided not to continue north due to the wind, although we later decided we should have. The ride back from the north end would have been great with the wind at our backs. We stopped at Falls Park for small bite to eat and some coffee before heading the rest of the way back. There was a it of racing going on on the way back. Well in the end we rode about 17 miles, a short one by standards. It was a fun one though. We should have ridden another 20 or so, but people had things to do. Oh well another day. Atleast we got one ride in over this holiday weekend.
