Today was almost to much for us two old people. We arrived at Lake Alvin at 12:30PM for an afternoon of paddling and letting others who wanted to try kayaking or paddling a canoe for the first time use our boats. It was a great time and allot of fun to see everyone try their hand at paddling, especially the young kids. Before the majority of the people arrive Kay and I took the opportunity to head to the southwest corner of the lake and down Nine Mile Creek. I was great. Narrow channel with reeds on both sides made it seem like you were in another place altogether. Although very shallow in some spots it was quiet passable until we came to a small rapids with lots of rocks. We could have carried our boats around and kept going, but we opted to turn around and head back. There were quite a few Carp flopping around the edges of the reeds and several turtle sunning themselves on logs. All in all it was a great time and Kay and I would like to thank the South Dakota Canoe Association for this great event. Kay and I left at about 3:30PM head home, unhooked toe boats, changed clothes, loaded the bikes and headed to Sioux Falls to get in our last 20 miles of the week on our bikes. It was very busy on the bike trail and made for a bit slower going until we got north of the falls, then is was not to bad. It was a great night for riding otherwise. Great temp and gentle breezes. And best of all finishing this ride was even more exciting because it was our 100 mile for the week, a goal I had set some time back. It was fun to achieve it, but now we will have to set a new one. Oh well that's what is all about. Having fun.
