October 28, 2008 Our Last Ride

Well the title is a bit deceiving. Tonight was not our last ride, just our last ride this year after work. With the change of time this Sunday we will no longer be able to ride outside after work and we will have to resort back the gym. But don't think for a minute that on any nice winter weekend day you will not still see us out on the on for ride. I just realized that about three blogs back I promised to post some pictures of our new bike and never did. Well here they are, sorry for the delay. By the way if your new to our blog just anote to let you knowif you click on any picture you will get a bigger view.

October 25,2008 Fall Riding

Fall is a great time to ride. I know I have not really update this for some time, but that doesn't mean we have not been riding, we have. Today we got up bright and early and hit the road. It was sunny and crisp, 37 degrees. Kay and I had our warm winter bike clothes on so it was actually very nice riding. One of the good things about this time of year is that there isn't much competition for the road, there aren't to many other riders out early in the morning. The real message to this addition though is that although riding is one of the greater pleasures it is not without its negative moments. While riding today I got a flat tire, a not so unusual thing. Under normal circumstances it would have only delay our ride for about fifteen minute while I replaced the tube in the tire. No so on this day. After removing the tire, getting out my new tube, removing the tire from the rim, replacing the tube and putting the tire back on the rim I realized we had forgotten our air pump. Well needless to say we were dead in our tracks. So for the next 30 minutes I sat on the curb in the nice fall sunshine and waited for Kay ride back to the Jeep and come to my rescue. Five minutes later we were on or way. Well I just wanted you to know that not every ride goes as expected, yet its all part of the memories. These are rides we remember most. By the way we now have two air pumps so hopefully we will not forget them both.

October 4, 2008 Early Morning Ride

This morning was a first for Kay and I in a couple of ways. The first was the first time we have ridden in the dark. Leaving at around 6:30AM it was still dark and rather cool. The temp was probably about 45 or so. The wind was blowing out of the south at a fair clip also making it a bit cooler and a bit harder to ride at times. It was also the first time we had ridden up in this part of South Dakota. We left Kay's parents home which is north of Lake Preston and headed east to the Badger Road and then north to Badger. The road was rolling hills. but nothing too strenuous. Once we headed north we got a bit of a break and the wind at our backs. A couple of miles north there were three deer crossed the road ahead of us and into the bean field they ran. Always fun to see mother nature at her best. From Badger we headed back west. This section had a few more substantial hills, but still nothing to serious. The early chill we had felt had pretty well disappeared as we built up some body temperature from riding. It was now daylight and there was more traffic. well traffic is a bit of an over statement. I am not sure what the county road number is where we turned and headed back south, but it was very hilly and we had the wind in our faces. We were really getting a work out now. It was a bit slower going. Just before we reached the North Preston Church corner we passed by a young man out for an early morning hunt. Not sure what he was hunting but... Once we headed back east we were on the down hill side of things. It was only a short distance back to Kay's parent's home and a well deserved breakfast. A great way to start a day.
